Important message by ENT Surgeon Dr. Nishit Shah about Coronavirus

Hi everyone.

Just wanted to write a few lines about Coronavirus disease on our readiness for the pandemic. Though there is no need to panic, we must be fully prepared so we don’t have a situation like Italy is facing. I would suggest that every major hospital, be it government or private, should have at least one Floor for quarantine and one ICU ready for covid patients, in case of requirement. This will ensure that all strata of society will come forward with symptoms and be assured of quality treatment. This wait and watch attitude may leave things till too late. Also, every major hospital must have the facility to test for the virus, so early and quick detection is possible. The more prepared we are, the easier to deal with any eventuality. Hopefully, it doesn’t get that bad, but the exercise will stand us in good stead for the future. I have spoken to some people, but would request everyone with connections to the government to help. 

To help alleviate suffering and save lives, WHO has been working night and day in five key ways: 

1. Helping build countries' capacity to prepare and respond

2. Providing accurate information and fight the infodemic, together with numerous partners

3. Ensuring supplies of essential medical equipment for frontline health workers.

4. Training and mobilizing health workers. 

5. Accelerating research and development.
